ABOUT

Benjamin Jones was born in Oxford and took up the cello at the unusually late age of eighteen, studying with Corinne Frost. He entered the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a scholarship after only two years of learning and graduated with first class honours in 2014. Following this, he continued his studies at RWCMD, graduating in 2016 with a Postgraduate Diploma. Benjamin studied with Alice Neary and Nikki Thomas.

Working across various musical genres, Benjamin enjoys a rich freelancing and performing life, and is a dedicated and passionate teacher. He is a highly experienced and dedicated cello teacher living in Edinburgh, focused on encouraging pupils to feel safe, supported and encouraged. With Ben, pupils benefit from a conscientious, consistent and clear-thinking approach tailored to them. Teaching means a great deal to Ben, he loves to share his enthusiasm and passion for music, and delights in seeing his pupils succeed. Having seen the many ways that music can enhance and change a life for the better, Ben is sure he can find the right path for you to find fulfilment, enjoyment and a sense of achievement from learning the cello.

Having taught privately and in schools, and often whole classrooms of string players over a number of years, Ben is experienced and equally at home teaching all ages from small children to adults, from complete beginner up to a university level. If you want to pursue ABRSM or Trinity music exams, Ben has the experience to guarantee your preparedness and let you know what to expect in an exam setting. With an excellent track record of results, Ben has supported many learners through the exam experience over the years. He is conservatoire educated, holding a Bachelor of Music degree, first class honours, and a Postgraduate Diploma. Ben enjoys a varied playing life, and as a freelance cellist works in operatic and orchestral settings, and in musical theatre.

Whatever role you hope that music can play in your life, whether you are seeking lessons for yourself or your child, Ben is anxious to see his joy of teaching reflected in your joy in learning, and would love to hear from you!
